I’m absolutely delighted to have been selected as a finalist for the 2017 AusMumpreneur Awards in the Women’s Business School Excellence Award category! The AusMumpreneur Awards recognise Australian Mums in business achieving outstanding success in areas such as business excellence, product development, customer service and digital innovation. The awards are designed to recognize the growing number of women who successfully balance motherhood and business in a way that suits their life and family.
I made the big jump into the business world after the birth of my first daughter back in 2012. I found myself looking for a more flexible work/life balance, something that would be predominantly online and that I could do in the evenings hours as required. I transitioned from full time primary school teaching into administration and marketing for a local fashion business. I really enjoyed creating the content and the general business administration. Once I had built up my confidence, I then went out on my own and created Sosocii. Now 5 years on, I am busily raising three happy children 5 years and under. I have 3 businesses: Sosocii (virtual assistance and social media management), Sosocii Connect (providing broadband, mobile, energy, merchant services and more) and Thankful Timber (handmade furniture with strong links towards donating to local charities). I am also currently studying a business scholarship and running the Yarra Valley chapter of Start Up Mum. I also occasionally fill in as a relief teacher. It sure is a lot to juggle but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Being selected as a finalist means so much to me because I am so inspired by all of the wonderful business women celebrated throughout the AusMumpreneur awards and I feel so grateful that I’ll find myself in their presence when I attend the gala in Sydney this month. I am truly so very passionate about business and find myself working away almost every night, trying to take my businesses to the next level. It really drives me and I get so excited to see it all coming to fruition. So for my hard work to be recognised, means the world to me.
Business is not always easy and Sosocii has overcome challenges but has also seen great success through the expansion of services and the increasing influence of the Sosocii online networking group of over 800 Australian business owners.
It can be challenging to run a successful business whilst raising a family and the advice I’d give others thinking about starting their own enterprise is “Don’t give up when you encounter setbacks, breathe and learn and keep going. It’s part of the process and the more you realise that, the less you’ll be crippled with the anxious thoughts of failing. Force out the fear and focus on your big picture.”

Ashley has been wonderful. She definitely knows how a Facebook page should run and the correct content to suit the specific business. Would recommend her to anyone wanting to outsource their social media management. Definitely has given me more time to focus on the business rather than running my page. Thank you Sosocii.
